Eddie Leal at Ellis Island will help usher in the hot temps with his Summer Vibes, a refreshing Kolsch with a decidedly citrus character due to additions of lemon zest and Lemon Drop hops. Ellis Island still wins the prize for the most reasonably priced beer in town: Standard beers are $3 and premium pours are $5 all the time, for imperial (20-oz) pints!
Richard Lovelady is continuing his Lovelady Brewing dead casino series, this month remembering the Hacienda, which opened in 1956 (the year of my birth!) where Mandalay Bay now sits and was imploded in 1996. The beer is the 7.5% ABV Hacienda Double Hazy IPA with mango, releasing the first week of June. Also coming up is another Speedee Mart beer: Gas Station Freeze, a 6.9% cold IPA with Simcoe and Sabro hops.
Dave Otto at Las Vegas Brewing has brewed Caught in the Rain, a 5.3% ABV Pina Colada Cream Ale with additions of natural pineapple and coconut flavor with lactose.
Nevada Brew Works co-owner Jason Taylor says they will be pouring Key Lime Summer Shandy, an easy drinking mixture of white wheat malt, 2-row malted barley, a touch of melanoidin and key lime adding an additional dimension of bitter taste to the beer.
Big Dog’s Head Brewer/Director of Brewery Operations
Dave Pascual tells me they will have Hopical Storm West Coast IPA, brewed with specialty pale malts and a combination of Amarillo, Mosaic and Galaxy hops to give it a very citrus and tropical profile.
CraftHaus Brewery co-owner/founder Wyndee Forrest reports they will release three IPAs in June: Cold Break, a draft-only collab with IMBĪB Custom Brews using lager yeast at a warm temperature for a bright, crisp and refreshing taste; Welcome to Fabulous, a hazy packed with juicy and tropical hops; and Züper Driip, a double IPA with flavors leaning toward dank, piney, resiny and spicy.
Bad Beat Brewing will host its 2nd annual Craft Beer Tasting on June 11 from 1-3 p.m. in support of Honor Flight Southern Nevada (HFSN), an all-volunteer non-profit organization that hosts trips to Washington D.C. for local World War II, Korea and Vietnam veterans to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.
Held in the brewery with Director of Brewing Operations Amanda Koeller providing tasting notes and answering questions, the tasting will include 8 oz pours of Hoppy Times IPA, Bluffing Isn’t Weisse Hefeweizen, I Love NV Amber Lager and seasonal Mexican lager El Viaje; and a pint of your choice from the taproom. Food from Jack’s Outlaw Grill will be available for purchase with a portion of each sale being donated to HFSN. Tickets are $40 or $50 including prizes and can be purchased here.
It’s now been five years since 595 Craft and Kitchen opened and immediately became one of the best craft beer bars in Southern Nevada. To celebrate the anniversary, the week of June 14-19 they’ll feature beer brewed in Nevada, tapping 3-5 a day until all 24 taps are all pouring Nevada brews by Saturday or Sunday. There will also be limited releases, one offs, collaborations and the triumphant return of the 595 and Triple 7 collaboration: Matt’s Stash (aka Matt’s Mixed Greens 2.0 Cold IPA).
