Is it my imagination but has this summer been hotter than usual? As of July 4, 2026 I’ll have been here for 24 years!
I know it’s “dry heat” but for some reason, this summer has bothered me more than usual. Yes, I go from my air-conditioned house to my air-conditioned car to my air-conditioned aerobic classes. But, come on!
I know that I’m drinking more water than usual in order to cool off and keep hydrated. The “rule of thumb” is to think of your normal weight (be honest!) divide by two and that’s how much water you need each day.
Sounds like a lot but in this heat we sweat more and can get dehydrated very easily. I even wear a hat now going to the mailbox. As I’m entering my 82nd birthday within a few months, I feel that getting older also includes feeling more sensitive to the sun and heat.
But when I think of moving from the east coast so many decades ago, this heat is much better than those summers with the heat and tremendous humidity. Living here does have its advantages!
My advice: keep cool, hydrate, eat healthy and exercise (indoors preferred!).
In my 55+community there are many very active seniors and others sedentary. Of course, the sedentary have multiple health problems and the active ones keep on going, going, going.
I think about my blessings – very grateful for what I have – a roof over my head, food on the table, two adorable fur babies, pretty good health, great jobs and more important friends and family.
With the “ber” months here now, and the end of 2026 sooner than we want, be grateful for whatever you have, not for what you don’t have.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND HAPPY HEALTH TO ALL!
