What’s Happening?

A group of seniors playing Mahjong.

I was sitting in the waiting room of my Orthopedist the other day. I was to have another shot in my arthritic knee.

I observed that the room was full of people over 60 years of age with various Orthopedic maladies: legs, back, neck, ankle, hip, etc. It made me wonder what’s happening to us Senior Citizens?

I saw the doctor and asked him if age had a big factor in all of these maladies. Of course, he said, “Yes.”

I got mad. These are the Golden Years when we are to enjoy our lives and have fun, travel, and do all the things we were not able to do when we were raising our children and working.

I spend more time in doctor’s offices than I do at home! No more! I went home, stripped, looked at my body from every angle, which was a scary wake up call, believe me!

I decided that, apart from the sags, folds, spots and cellulite, my body wasn’t half bad.  Therefore, forget concentrating on the Arthritis and other Senior maladies. I am going to concentrate on what is good in my body and what I can do to have more fun.

Since my “wake up call” I have joined a gym (now, now, I hear the groans). I admit that I look like a wounded cow on the treadmill, but I take one unsteady step at a time.

I have joined Mahjong, Bunco and Canasta groups. These ladies take these games seriously! Talk about mental acuity – Cal Tech would be impressed with their mental skills.

I never feel like I am just playing a game. I feel like I must be a Special Forces soldier going into battle. One woman has every physical malady you can think of and whips my derriere every time!

Physical maladies don’t stop the romance department also. Many Seniors have incredibly romantic, sexual relationships that would outdo any porno channel.

Most people don’t know that because we Seniors like to keep that great secret to ourselves. The younger population could learn a move (or two) from us!

So, I say bring on the Senior maladies! I am enjoying my life tremendously!
