The last time I tackled the topic of good vs. bad judges, I was asking my readers to please read the list of judges on their ballot carefully and do not vote for Judge Charles Hoskin.
Hoskin was the presiding judge in Clark County’s guardianship court and after working several years following and observing many of those cases, I don’t recall him ever ruling in favor of the ward now designated as a “protected person.”
Over the past few years, I pick up my newspaper and read about people of all ages, from children to seniors, able bodies and disabled, killed or maimed in a pedestrian/driver cause accident? Often times, the cause was the driver being DUI or drug induced.
I have been shocked as to the sentences imposed. They are often nothing more than a hand slap! Thus, I began to pay very close attention to a judge’s demeaner, attitude, and finally their final decision in a case.
I am certain when the campaigns begin, I’d bet that many people running for a judgeship are those you have never heard of and therefore know nothing about them..
Or you may have heard the name, but what do you know about that person? Well, here is something that might help you make a stronger choice.
A web site called OurNevadaJudges.com Within that site you will find trellis.law/judges/nv
This is where you can find detailed directory of the judges in Nevada, featuring in-depth profiles, judge analytics, recent cases, and rulings of both active and former judges.
It is too early to know the list of current judges (or attorneys) who are or might seek election, however since I have been asked for my choices several times over the past few elections, there are two ladies that would always get my vote.
Both Judge Terra Jones and Judge Michelle Leavitt will never back down to anyone and I admire that. For those of you that followed the case of April Parks, the notorious private guardian who “ripped off” many seniors it was Judge Terra Jones who sentenced Ms. Parks to receive her richly deserved long prison sentence!
