The Surfer

The Surfer

“The Surfer” directed by Lorcan Finnegan and produced by Leonora Darby and James Harris is rated “R” for some violence, drug content, sexual material, language, and suicide.

The cast of includes; Nicolas Cage, Julian McMahon, Nicolas Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, and Alexander Bertrand.

In this psychological thriller, a man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son. But his desire to hit the waves is thwarted by a group of locals whose mantra is, ”don’t live here, don’t surf here.”

Humiliated and angry, the man is drawn into a conflict that keeps escalating as the heat of the summer pushes him to his breaking point. This film is as absurd as it portrays the surfing gang.

On the positive side, it is a stellar performance by Nicolas Cage. One of his best performances in recent times.

The story line and character development however get “0” stars. The entire film premise is unbelievable. The fact that some actors weren’t speaking with Australian accents was mute.

The movie was slow and ridiculous, and the best part was when it was over and the lights came on. My movie rating is a big “2”, the first time I gave that rating in 16 years.

Don’t bother to see it!
