I thought I’d write this month about the handsome guy you see with me. That’s Gregory Harrison. He is probably best known as “Gonzo” Gates, the young surgeon in the TV show Trapper John MD starring Pernell Roberts.
Before getting that role, he actually served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a Medic!
He was also in many other shows such as Falcon Crest, MASH, Law and Order, and Touched by an Angel, just to name a few. He also had a recurring role on the soap opera “General Hospital” from 2020 – 2024.
It’s been said that in the film “For Ladies Only” (in which he played a male stripper) he became a fan favorite in the ‘80s not only with women but with gay men.
He is however married to a lovely actress, Randi Oakes. They met in 1979 while competing on the TV show called “Battle Of The Network Stars.” Randi was on the NBC team and Gregory was on the CBS team.
I had the pleasure of meeting him while doing an autograph show several years ago. I was sitting with Tommy Kirk who you will remember as “Travis ” the boy who shot Old Yeller.
While on a break, I decided I wanted to meet him as I was (and still am) a big fan of his. I walked over to his table and introduced myself and he was SO nice!
He told me he was a big fan of the movie Old Yeller. In fact, he said that it was because of Tommy that he wanted to become an actor!
Publisher Dan likes to “remind” me that I always say EVERYONE is so nice, but honestly it’s true! Not only is he handsome, but he is just simply delightful, sweet, kind and friendly.
I’ve been very, very lucky to be able to meet so many wonderful people in the film industry. Dan is still waiting for me to say someone is not nice, but so far, so good!
Until next time, remember: There is magic everywhere …if you’re paying attention.
