As an American and as a Jew, I am grateful to our President for taking up the battle against Iran rather than sending billions in cash and unfreezing billions more in assets as Obama and Biden did.
Those generous actions not only did nothing to deter Iran from continuing its aggressive policies. Instead it aided and abetted those efforts with Iran repeatedly announcing its desire to see the demise of “The Great Satan.”
Iran has been targeting the US for nearly 50 years, since the taking of 66 American diplomats and citizens, 52 of whom were held for 444 days. Thanks to President Reagan for accomplishing what Jimmy Carter could not by finally securing their release.
The outrage of Americans was palpable, much as it was when our country was attacked 14 years later with the destruction of the World Trade Center, the attack on the Pentagon and attempted attack on our Capitol. The amount of national pride was matched only by the outrage we all felt.
We were angry and saddened by the senseless loss of innocent lives. Of course, those emotions dissipated over time, and some are now questioning the assault on Iran.
How quickly Americans forget.
Politicians on the left and right, including Hilary Clinton in 2015, have often expressed that they would undertake whatever would be necessary to eliminate the threat of a nuclear Iran.
One minute Congress is singing God Bless America on the steps of the Capitol, funding the Patriot Act, creating the Department of Homeland Security and a commission to recommend reforms in counterintelligence and the next minute protesting in the streets chanting “No Kings”, which movement, among other things, rejects the military in Iran.
Iran has not been discouraged from continuing to be the largest State sponsor of terrorism, funding a network of Sunni and Shia militant groups and they have been diligent in securing nuclear weapons and means to transport them to attempt to kill as many Americans as possible.
As recently as the beginning of April, they have again tried to mislead by promising to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a ceasefire, only to prevent ships from sailing freely while Israel continues to be bombed even from the moment it was agreed to ceasefire.
I am grateful for the US/Israeli partnership in defeating the terror threat of Iran, both for our safety and security in the US and for the security of Israel. Israel would surely be the first recipient of an Iran launched nuclear attack had they been allowed to continue enrichment.
Our alleged allies in NATO have failed to assert themselves in any meaningful way and many have even sabotaged our efforts by failing to allow the US to utilize military bases in their countries. I thank President Trump for caring about the survival of the US, Israel and all of humanity.
