“Kathy Manney is named new columnist” – that was 20-years ago.
Twenty-years are not simply a milestone, but a pleasure to have been writing for The Vegas Voice since January 2006. When I began, I could not have imagined still being a regular columnist for this many years.
Thank you Publisher Dan for letting me to be part of The Vegas Voice family. Not only has it been a pleasure, it has been rewarding to have a relationship where there has been no expectation other than for me to be authentic.
If you are a regular reader of this column you know that my life experience have made their way into my columns. Life experience makeup the chapters of our lives. Those chapters define us and I am appreciative to have traveled widely and sometimes observed history in the making.
After winning a national high school writing contest, my younger self considered pursuing journalism. Then as often happens, destiny carried me down a different path. “Sometimes we can only find our true direction when we let the winds of change carry us.”
No matter where you are in life you can always start something new. In middle age I made a decision to write for publications and when writing nonfiction you can’t get away with anything because it is just you and the page.
Reading is a favorite pastime and writers are typically readers with a desire to tell a story and at the same time be informative while bringing bits and pieces from their lives. To quote author David Balducci, “Reading gives you perspective, knowledge and context.”
Thank you Vegas Voice readers for your support. I look forward to your continued readership. Hopefully my columns have offered worthy of note topics.
And again, thank you Publisher Dan for allowing me to be a published Vegas Voice columnist the past twenty-years!
