Tasty Greek Fare: It’s All Greek to Me

Mediterranean cuisine is becoming more fashionable all of the time. Not only is it healthy but the flavors allow everyone to enjoy on a daily basis. A small restaurant tucked into a shopping mall is packing them in.

It’s Greek to Me not only has some innovative dishes but their bakery features goodies you probably haven’t seen anywhere. The staff is friendly and on a recent visit I was surprised at the homey atmosphere. It is one of those places where smiles abound.

Appetizers are led by Pita and Hummus with sumptuous bread that includes the chickpea favorite, diced cucumbers, tomatoes, and kalamata olives. Dolmades is a traditional starter and this edition features grape leaves stuffed with Greek rice, lemon juice and house seasonings delivered with tzatziki sauce.

If you are looking for a gyro they have a quintet of selections including a breakfast option. The Nikos features a mix of lamb and beef, tomatoes, red onions, and feta cheese. A vegan version includes fried zucchini sticks, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and cheese.

Habanero sauce spices up the Hades gyro. Grilled chicken is wrapped up with tomatoes, and feta. Be aware this is a hot one!

Entrees are flavorful and affordable with nothing over $22. An innovative dish I was introduced to is a winner. Pastitsio comes in a small pot with a lid. As you lift the top you will notice a roof of parmesan cheese. Inside are Greek noodles immersed in beef meat sauce and bechamel sauce.

Gemista are stuffed green peppers that include large tomatoes with beef meat sauce. Rice fills out the plate.

If you want to sample many flavors order the Souvlaki Platter with a choice of meat, rice or French fries and pita.

A Coney hot dog is something unusual for a Greek place, but this one is smothered in beef meat and Zeus sauces plus feta cheese. Wings are also popular with these beauties fried once, grilled to char and then fried again. Greek buffalo sauce is fine for dipping.

There are two display cases that showcase the baked goods. Breakfast specialties along with imported cakes from Greece are featured. The chocolate display area is chock full of desserts that are made by the restaurant’s own chocolatier, who is the father of the chef.

Since they are constructed with Ghirardelli chocolate you know they are good. Bars, brownies, and blondies are ready for consuming.

A full menu of coffee drinks is offered like the Santorini Sunrise which is a collection of hazelnut, cinnamon and honey topped with whipped cream. Greek coffee is made in a briki which is a metal pot that is used for traditional brewing.

Beer and wine are available, and they offer a few Greek brews like a Mythos pilsner. Kouros Red Blend wine is available for lovers of the vine.

Innovative Greek food, sweets and a pleasant atmosphere await you at It’s All Greek to Me, 72 W. Horizon Ridge Pkwy. #20, Henderson. www.itsallgreektomevegas.com.
