Carnivore Diet? I thought the doctor said Carnival diet.

As a senior, I am constantly on the lookout for the perfect diet and based on the ever-changing lists of current popular diets, many people, including fellow seniors, are in the same boat.

Along with old standards such as the Mediterranean and Keto diets there are lesser knowns like the Flexitarian, Pescatarian, Volumetrics, Okinawa, Salish, and Nordic diets, making selecting one an arduous task.

Then, one day, while my wife and I listened to a podcast, a chance occurrence led to what I perceived as the perfect diet. During a discussion about latest diet trends, I was certain the doctor on the podcast suggested looking into something called the ‘carnival’ diet.

“Carnival diet,” I exclaimed to my wife, “now that’s a diet I’m sure I could stick with for a long time!”

And with the State Fair coming up at that time, I started to list all the food I could eat which would no doubt be allowed on the carnival diet: corn dogs, fried pickles, funnel cakes, caramel apples, cotton candy, cheese curds, and deep-fried Oreos. My wife stared at me in disgust as I attempted to refrain from drooling.

Once I gained control of myself, she calmly informed me that the doctor said “… Carnivore Diet, not carnival diet.” Needless to say, I was terribly disappointed.

I was also confused, never having heard of the Carnivore Diet. Searching the internet, I discovered the diet’s popularity, including Carnivore Diet books specifically geared towards seniors.

Also, there are various versions of meat-based Carnivore Diets, each having a popular social-media influencer urging senior folks to eat like a caveman. Shawn Baker is a well-known proponent of “Eating animals nose to tail,” including all animal organs.

Another Carnivore Diet social-media influencer is Pauly Long, known by his followers as “Testicle King” because… well, I’ll skip the gory details.

The most intriguing Carnivore Diet personality is Brian Johnson, with the online alias “Liver King.” Johnson’s videos depicting his eating raw animal livers are viewed by millions.

Now that I know more about the Carnivore Diet, I think I’ll stick to my Carnival Diet. Liver King or Testicle King I’ll never be. But “Funnel-Cake King” is certainly within my reach.
