Fear is one of those things in life that ends up stealing so much of our time and energy. How often do we feel twinges of anxiety caused by fear invading our beings?
What is it that brings us fear, anxiety or worry? Maybe a more difficult question to consider: Why do we allow fear to consume us?
“Fear: an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” Fear is powerful and can take control of our lives!
None of us want that, but how do we escape it? I suggest releasing it to the higher power that many us call God.
Many believe that the Biblical meaning of the phrase “Fear God” is to be afraid of God. That’s inaccurate.
When the Bible says, “Fear God” it doesn’t mean to be afraid of God, but to “stand in awe” of God! The power of God in all religions is not something to be afraid of, but to be in awe of as we consider the power of God’s love!
In Islam, fear is said to be a natural reaction to the unknown, meant to keep people alert and safe. Islam rejects excessive fear, which can lead to self-deceit, despair and spiritual decline.
So what do we do with our feelings of anxiety, worry and fear that we may feel at any given moment? How do we help ourselves to stop the fear from consuming us?
Spiritual practices of all faiths suggest quiet times of prayer or meditation; clearing our minds of all the thoughts that will cause us to unravel. And stand in awe in front of the power of Love that many of us call God.
Let’s do ourselves a favor, carving a few quiet moments once or twice a day. Let’s clear our minds of the fears and let them go.
Let’s replace fear with the quiet truth that love will always win. We all can and will get past the challenges of today.
Let’s choose to walk forward in peace and calm, knowing that in the end, love will win!
