Remembering Bobby Sherman

Remembering Bobby Sherman

It is with a heavy heart that I write this month’s column. Way back in 1971,  I had the honor of being cast in a short lived series called “Getting Together” starring Bobby Sherman.

Bobby was already very well known as a singer and star of his other series  “Here Come The Brides.” I, along with millions of other girls was a huge fan of his.

I read for a part in the TV show and was beyond thrilled when I got a call from my agent advising that I had landed the role. Although the show lasted only one season, the memories were timeless.

I remember my first day driving on the lot and seeing hundreds of screaming girls. As I made my way up to the guard gate, I asked the guard what was going on.

He said that every Friday, girls would show up waiting to get a glimpse of Bobby and David Cassidy. He then told me, ” The only difference is that Bobby will get out of his car and sign autographs for every one of them and David would just as soon run them all over.”

Bobby was that kind of guy. Sweet, kind, thoughtful and appreciative of all of his many fans.

Saying it was a joy working with him would be an understatement, as he was so warm, adorable and so welcoming to me to be on his show.

He was ranked number 8 in the list of TV Guide’s Greatest Teen Idols and in 1970 ABC announced that Bobby had received more fan mail than any other ABC star!

Bobby appeared on many other television shows such as The Mod Squad, The Partridge Family, Emergency, and The Love Boat just to name a few. He was a regular on Shindig.

Besides his TV career, Bobby had 7 gold singles, 1 platinum single and 5 gold albums. He played to sold out concerts and graced the covers of just about every teenage magazine there was.

As he got older, he seemed to have a “calling ” to help others. He retired from Show Business and became an EMT, as well as a medical training officer. Bobby also became a Deputy Sheriff. He dedicated his life to helping others.

Sadly, he lost his battle with cancer on June 24th. I am blessed that I got to know and work with him. Rest in peace dear Bobby

Until next time, remember to try and be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.
