Redirecting My Focus

Nationally, too much attention has been given to our political election. The election process which supposedly culminates on November 5th started in January, 2022. (Or for some, the day after Election Day, 2020.)

It was only a few decades ago that we as could get the process done in just a few months! Today it’s a 2+ year process because it has turned into a money-making circus.

Seeing this happen to our country’s political process makes me sick! It makes me angry! It makes me crazy!

Instead of going crazy, I need to remember that it is out of my control. There is nothing I can do about it.

So then, what do I do to relieve the ulcer I feel?

As I contemplate what I would like to write for this month, I realize that I need to focus, not on the election, but on this month’s national holiday of Thanksgiving!

There is so much divisiveness and bad feeling in our country right now. The best way for all of us to not get sucked into that destructive spirit is to combat it with gratitude!

When we feel the urge to see things as only red or blue, let’s strive to see and appreciate the mix of red & blue,  the beautiful shades of purple in this life! Let’s remember that we all can join in gratitude for “purple mountain majesties above the fruited plains.”

Let’s remember the naturally beautiful country in which we live. And let’s join together to be grateful for it! Let’s find other commonalities rather than differences.

Hear a discussion or a post that makes your blood boil? Stop. Breathe. Instead of responding, let’s try to find a reason for gratitude.

Observe behavior between people that is hateful and unkind? Stop. Breathe. Instead of joining in, let’s find a reason to be thankful.

Let’s do the best we can to not buy into the anger and vitriol. Let’s stop. Breathe. And find a reason to LOVE others.

Stop. Breathe. LOVE. Happy Thanksgiving!
