Political Editor Rana Goodman appearing before the Nevada Legislature. As outlined in her current column, Rana spoke in favor of Senate Bill 22 that increased the criminal penalties for senior abuse.
I was not able to travel up to Carson City in time to testify on Senate Bill 22 which was the “housekeeping” part of making the penalties for senior abuse more severe. I took my testimony down to the Sawyer Building and spoke via teleconference to the Government Affairs Committee. They of course told me that I would have to make a “do over” which I will gladly do, since this is an issue that I will make on my “soap box” to whoever will hear me.
As soon as the next bill is placed on the calendar I will be on a Southwest flight up north. I want to thank all of you who have sent e-mails on this topic since my column came out in the February issue. If you can send me your thoughts I will carry them with me, the more the better. We need to show our legislators just how wide spread this problem is. Our elders need to be protected just as surely as our children do. I need your help to make it happen
