Dan Roberts, publisher and editor of The Vegas Voice recently invited the Democratic and Republican nominees for Congressional District 3 to participate in a candidate forum for its senior readers. Both Susie Lee and Danny Tarkanian agreed to participate, scheduled for October 17th at Sun City MacDonald Ranch. However, after initially saying “I will be happy to debate any day, any time,” Susie Lee now refuses to participate.
“The forum would’ve given both candidates the opportunity to share their platform with senior voters. Residents in Anthem, Sun City Anthem, Sun City MacDonald Ranch, and Henderson deserve the chance to hear what Susie Lee and Danny Tarkanian stand for, but Susie is now refusing to do so” says Roberts.
The Lee campaign cites an objection to the moderators of the debate as their reason for going back on their word.
Dan Roberts continued, “The forum would’ve been moderated by our political columnists for The Vegas Voice. I invited both our Democrat and Republican columnists to serve as co-moderators for the debate, which would’ve kept things fair and balanced. We even instituted arrangements that Ms. Lee would only get questions by our Democratic columnist so that there would not be any ‘gotcha’ questions.
“I’m confident that Howard Beckerman and Victoria Seaman would’ve done a great job getting the answers that voters need to hear. To his credit, Danny Tarkanian remains willing to appear and face questions from any of our columnists, but Susie Lee and her campaign manager have cancelled on their commitment and now refuse to participate.
“We trust that sooner or later Susie Lee will realize that if she actually wants to be Congresswoman, she needs to speak with the senior community. It's beyond disrespectful to all senior voters that Susie refuses to appear.”
