![]() By: Rana Goodman As anyone who has lived in Las Vegas for a long time, or has looked into t he history of our wonderful city knows, Las Vegas High School (LVHS) was the first to rise from the desert floor. LVHS has the distinction of graduating many well know politicians, entertainers, casino owners and families of pioneer families. Even this writer, an immigrant from the UK walked those halls back in the day and loved it. Each year, thanks to a dedicated group in the LVHS Alumni Association, an All Class Reunion is held bringing many old friends back together to share memories and up-date each other on their lives. This reunion started out at Sam's Town, Yes, Sam Boyd is an alumni too. However over the years the event attendees has grown in number so much that the last few years have been held at the Orleans, as it will again this year. What follows are the details so far if you would like to mark your date book. ![]() By: Rana Goodman As I was sitting in the room on the 4th floor Friday at the Sawyer Building, the overflow crowd listened intently to the hearing in Carson City on construction defects, I was impressed by the number of people who had taken time from their day to come and testify and or participate in the process. It was 8:45 and the speeches in Carson City were still being made from a group representing the construction industry. They were trying to convince the Senate Judiciary Committee that any defect of importance would manifest itself within three years, therefore there was no need to allow the law to remain with a ten year statute of limitations to file a complaint. I'm sure they didn't think anyone would speak about the 100 million Del Webb had settled in Henderson a few years ago for a plumbing fiasco. ![]() By: Rana Goodman Several months ago I wrote a feature dealing with our generation and tabbed us “the Disposable Generation.” Now it seems we, those of us not wanting, or affording to be retired completely, are also among the “unemployable generation.” We are not alone in that grouping however, move over for the 45 year olds and up too, because they are right in there with us, according to e-mail I have been receiving from our Vegas Voice readers. In light of this chatter, I reached out to friends and family that lost jobs and some that wanted to switch jobs in the past years or so and was surprised and the education I received. |
