Meet Valerie Brown: Stand-Up Comedian

PictureComedian Valerie Brown
What do I want to be when I grow up? You think about it when you’re perhaps 12, 18, or out of college.  And more recently at the age of 60.

I have been in the Travel Industry, since 1976. First with Pan Am World Airways for 12 years, then owning my own Travel Agency for 10 years and currently as a Flight Attendant with Southwest Airlines, since 1997.

But I am not ready to retire quite yet. In addition to being a working Flight Attendant, I am also a stand-up comedian.

It all started as a dare. I had been talking about being a comedian for years, but never had the courage to do it.

Then my good friend, tired of hearing me talk about it, told me that I would never do it. That’s all it took for me to take charge of my destiny.

I started by researching classes for stand-up comedians on the Internet. I ended up taking two (6 week) courses with Don Barnhart, a local successful comedian in Las Vegas.

Since then I have done two comedy showcases, at Rubicon’s and Boomers. I have also done stand-up locally in Las Vegas at “The Beat” Coffeeshop, Wake-Up Coffee, The Crepe Restaurant and now I am hosting my own Comedy Club, Tuesdays at Chi’Cha’Ron’ Sports Cantina at 6 pm.

It’s all so exciting. The opportunities are endless. Remember no one controls your destiny, but you.
