![]() By: Sam Wagmeister - Nightlife Editor This is Vegas. They’re all around you and most of us don’t even know it. But then…then…they don the wigs, the makeup and the costumes and suddenly you’re in the presence of the great legends of show business. They are the Buddy Hollys of the world, the George Burns and Judy Garlands…Elvis and Rick James. These are the impersonators who have taken on the responsibility of keeping alive the music of previous generations.
On Wednesday, June 25th, five of Las Vegas’ favorite “impersonators" shed the “impersonator” title to become Tribute Artists. Five local Tribute Artists will be inducted into the Las Vegas Entertainers Hall of Fame. These five locals artists are being recognized by their peers for the outstanding work and performances they present. These five Tribute Artists have excelled under the makeup and costumes, working for free in many cases to bring their music to the nursing homes, hospitals and benefits to support the community. Being honored Wednesday are: Elvis Presley – Paige Poole; Rick James – GP Entertainer; Buddy Holly – Jim Mann; George Burns – Dan Ward and Judy Garland – Denise Rose. Jean Bennett, the assistant to Buck Ram who helped develop the Platters, the Flares and other groups is scheduled to be a guest speaker. Although few seats remain, the public is invited. The 2 pm event takes place at recently remodeled Skinny Dugan’s Pub, 4127 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas. Admission is $10 at the door. It is suggested that attendees RSVP to Oneda Polk, (702) 878-1660.
