Our Calling

Our Calling

It should be the obligation and mandate for every veteran to realize that his or her duty is not over upon discharge; but to continue to work for unity and peace, and to preserve our lives and the lives of our countrymen.

It really is a simple concept. I think however, in lieu of all the political partisanship and serious division that exists amongst us, there needs to be a call to action amongst us.

I did not, and I’ll bet you did not serve our nation in uniform (in war and peace) to have it fall apart because of a thing known as “the center aisle.” Party against Party, and the media being their biased mouthpiece keeping us divided.

Most of the elected politicians did not carry the burden of war in uniform, and do not know how especially dear our country is to those who wore it. It is my belief that we should hold them accountable for fomenting discord and conflict that will eventually ruin all that we have fought for.

I refuse to allow such juvenile behavior in our political leadership demean the ultimate price that my comrades paid when they came home with a flag draped over them. That tremendous cost means more to me than any balanced budget ever could.

Personally, I have taken a hiatus from involving myself in political goings on, including voting. I have been waiting for one candidate, or the other, to proclaim the following: “I promise to work to eliminate the center aisle and do my best to meld our collective conscious into one America, undivided, and to work for peace and prosperity together.”

Perhaps the most significant statement made in recent times is, “Come back when you’re ready for peace.” Now, I can forecast that some people across the aisle from the man who said that will not be pleased by my mentioning it, but I suppose it’s to be expected when living in such a divided country.

I pray that common sense returns to this nation. Our forefathers did not have much more than good ole common sense as they formed our country.
