Must Have Been the Cookies

Must Have Been the Cookies

It was the first week of a new lounge show, with a small cast, at The Thunderbird Casino. We enjoyed the camaraderie of being in the same dressing room, except for the male dancer, of course.

Justine brought her homemade cookies to share with everyone. We were delighted. We all ate at least two each when suddenly, I began to feel strange.

I had to lay my head down on the makeup table and said, “I don’t think I can make the show!” Everyone burst into laughter.

Ellie said, “You’re fine; you’re just high!” I thought, “What?”

With the girls’ help, I was in my costume and on stage. I felt like I could fly. It was either the best or worst performance of my career.

Leaning backward, it felt like my head touched my behind. While I doubt that happened, I now

know that before eating anything, be sure to ask, what’s in it.

I had no idea. We ate marijuana cookies

When the show ended after a year, we lost track of each other.

Recently I joined a group of dancers and the producer of that lounge show for lunch. One was anxious to update us on five of the girls who were in that production.

The olive-skinned Italian dancer, Jane, married the owner of a New Jersey Casino. Sexy blonde Karen is a successful Las Vegas Realtor. Ellie and her twin sister, Justine, became gaming executives.

Fran, who looked like a New York model with her pixie hairstyle and long legs, robbed a Bank of America on the west side of Las Vegas, pointing a gun at the teller. An off-duty patrolman was standing behind her and saw what was happening. He instinctively went into action, took the weapon, and arrested her.

After spending many years in prison, she was released. Within two weeks of her freedom, surprisingly, she returned to the same bank, using a revolver, attempting to rob it again, only to be caught and ultimately returned to the same prison.

I wondered: Was she desperate for money or did she want to return to prison?
