As we age, aside from our lips getting thinner, oftentimes we also lose that rosy pink healthy color. With lipstick, we can cover up our paler lips, but as the day goes on, especially if we eat and drink, the lipstick comes off, and we have to reapply.
Like with all things, someone came up with a fix for that lip tint or lip stain. It is not lipstick; the idea is that it basically stains your lips in a variety of red colors. Creating nice, natural lip color with no lipstick or gloss.
I tried 2 different brands. The first reminded me of red food coloring. It was Elf brand and under 6.00, with 6 different shades. I tried Cherry Cola, it worked and left my lips deep red.
It was very liquid. If you have lip lines and use it without liner, it can run up those little lines. Be careful with this one, a spill or dropping the applicator could leave a red dye spot.
Next, I tried Wonderskin Lip Stain. It’s $22 on its Amazon store and much more expensive. Wonderskin has 13 colors with a unique wand application.
It paints on blue, and after it dries, you wipe it off with a damp, soft cloth. I tried the color Adore, and liked it better than Cherry Cola red. It added color but I didn’t look like I’d been sucking a red popsicle.
So, in what situation would I use these? I’m so used to having liner and lipstick when I go out, that using these alone would probably not work for me.
Using stain under my lipstick is most likely what I’ll do. Then, when the lipstick wears off, I’ll still have color.
Putting gloss over just the tint creates a nice, natural look. If your lips are thin, using a liner first, then the lip stain and a gloss could be a light summer look.
Application tip: If you try a stain, make sure to exfoliate your lips gently first. Dry skin will hold more tint and not look as smooth.These were fun to try, and I may play with them a bit more but I don’t see these replacing my liner and lipstick. Sometimes the old standbys are hard to give up.
