“The best part of babysitting the grandchildren is giving them back.”
Let me first say that the credit (or blame) for our front page belongs to our Executive Director and Bill Blurb’s columnist Bill Caserta. He showed me a photo a few years ago of his grandchildren agreeing to be photographed “tied up” while he was babysitting.
Even my Rana thought it was humorous and I readily agreed. Despite begging Bill for permission to print it, he politely declined.
Fast forward several years, and with the assistance, cooperation (if not eager participation) of the Bird family, The Vegas Voice was finally able to put together the photos that should make an overwhelming majority of readers smile.
For those few who might be offended or “shocked”, while we respect your opinion and viewpoint, lighten up. It’s a joke, a humorous reminder that while no doubt you care, love and even worship your grandchildren (just ask me about my Rana’s grandchildren – starting with the “Messiah”) perhaps, just perhaps for one brief moment you might “feel” differently.
Getting together with the grandchildren makes life worth living. It’s okay not to take things seriously, loosen up and smile – if not outright laugh.
Our Vegas Voice thanks to our Entertainment Director Jonny Bird, wonderful wife Anna and their fantastic and beautiful children, Hayden, Haylie and Starling, along with long-time readers Bob & Boni Merlin for posing as the “grandparents.”
A shout-out to our Vegas Voice Graphics Editor, photographer extraordinaire and my number one son Michael Roberts for putting up with his dad and the photography.
While I’m at it, let me thanks my PILL (partner in love & life) Rana for agreeing to allow our home for the photo scenes and the chaos surrounding the shoot. And last, but certainly not least, my Bronx brother Bill for his demented thinking which matches this publisher in (almost) every way.
Most importantly, enjoy your family this – and every month!
