Lost in Sensation: Overcoming Painful Diabetic Neuropathy

Arlene Kaplan

Imagine a world where every step you take feels like walking on pins and needles, resulting in shooting, burning pain. This may sound like a terrible nightmare, but it was my constant reality for over a decade.

My suffering was caused by painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN), a condition impacting millions of people with diabetes around the country. It’s one of the most common diabetes complications that causes numbness, tingling, burning, and sharp pain in the limbs. Though it’s common, the options for relief are often not good enough for the long term. I tried everything my doctor and I could think of – prescription pain medications, physical therapy, and even some experimental holistic treatments. The side effects of the medications left me in a worse state than I was in before, and the other options didn’t make a lasting difference in my pain. I couldn’t even walk barefoot unless it was on the carpet. Something had to change.

I finally found hope with Dr. Yevgeniy Khavkin and the Khavkin Clinic here in Las Vegas. We met to discuss my options and he introduced me to a high-frequency spinal cord stimulation (SCS) device called Nevro HFX™. HFX is a small device that works inside your body to deliver very mild electric pulses to the nerves interrupting pain signals to the brain.

I started out by trying HFX for a week. When the pain came back after the trial was over, I knew I needed this device for the long haul.

Since receiving HFX, I have been pain-free and can walk around without the shooting, burning pain I lived with for too long. I have a dedicated Nevro HFX Care Team that works with me on a personalized plan to fine-tune my relief with HFX.

Today, every pain-free step I take is a reminder of all that I’ve overcome. I encourage anyone who lives with PDN symptoms to learn more about Nevro HFX at hfxforpdn.com and find out if it might be right for you, too.
