I am in closet cleaning mode these days and it’s quite amazing what has been lurking there.
Clothes that came back twice already hang quietly in the back corners. Some are covered so they don’t get dusty and others are still on dry cleaning hangers draped in saran wrap.
One thing they have in common is wire hangers. They’re everywhere!
They get tangled up together, leave marks on the shoulders and they’re wrapped in paper. If you have shoulder pads from the ‘80s, everything stays well preserved but take out the pads and nothing fits right anyway.
Wire hangers are annoying so I throw them on the closet floor. Then I step on them and get even more annoyed as I try to pick them up and make a neat little stack.
They don’t take to stacking. Instead they start flopping around so I put my arm through them to carry to the trash. By the time I’m done, my arms have marks and I’m exhausted.
I once bought 100 foam covers guaranteed to protect my clothes from hanger marks. That didn’t work. The wires broke through the foam and then the foam dried up into little pieces inside my clothes.
And then there is the felt covered plastic hangers. It could be velvet but I’m not sure. I was all excited when those came out.
Sure enough, the plastic is so thin that if you put any kind of blazer on them, it bends. But it stays on the hanger!
As for the solid plastic ones for wet laundry, you’re welcome to them! The clothes slide off every time or leave marks. For some strange reason, men like them and they hang there just to irritate me.
If I was younger, I would invent a hanger that is actually useful, not expensive and keeps the shape of clothes intact. I would have to sell at least a million dollars and then go on Shark Tank. What are the odds?
So yes, I would throw a tantrum about wire hangers like in the movie.
