I’m Not (Really) Bragging

I’m Not (Really) Bragging

“The Vegas Voice has done it again!”

I’m not bragging (ok, maybe a little) but once again, The Vegas Voice, received 16 national awards from the North American Mature Publishers Association. NAMPA is the largest and most prestigious senior publication trade association in America.

Forgive me if I seem to go on (and on) but to be recognized by my peers for our work and efforts is extremely satisfying. It’s been a remarkable journey.

Knowing nothing about running a publication (a fact some readers still tell me based on their emails) while I wish I can claim credit, in all honestly, all the applause belongs to the wonderful people listed on the masthead.

Let’s start with our “national award winning columnists”:

1. Liz Breier for her brilliant and heartfelt articles regarding the events in Israel and the rise of antisemitism in the United States and around the world.

2. Howard Galin for his “Happy Garden” tips and suggestions.

3. Lauren Tillman for her columns advising readers to (continue) to engage in loving relationships – no matter the age.

4. Rana Goodman for her never-ending quest to help readers.

5. Our Vegas Voice editorials.

And it’s not just our articles that caught the attention of the NAMPA judges.

Awards were presented for our front page banner (thank you Ray Sarbacker, my now retired former partner and graphics extraordinaire), to our fantastic front page covers and overall magazine design (and now I’m boasting, since I’m his dad and that’s my boy Michael Roberts) to our ad designs (thank you Anna Bird – who had to step into Ray’s shoes and did so seamlessly).

And last, but certainly not least, our website (thevegasvoice.net) was once again singled out (with thanks to Maria & Mick Bailey and everyone at Success City Online who are now part of our Vegas Voice family).

I know this all sounds like I’m “blowing my own horn” but as Will Rogers proclaimed, if you don’t blow your own horn, “someone else will use it as a spittoon.” And that’s my job to make sure that never occurs.

But where do we go from here?

As communications outlets change, we recognize that more of our readers are embracing social media options. And The Vegas Voice intends to be a part of the digital world.

We are expanding our “digital footprint” to a more interactive website, podcasts (by the way, per the podcast platform Feedspot, our Vegas Voice podcasts were selected/listed as one of the Top 5 Nevada news podcasts, but once again, I’m not bragging) and videos.

We are also now broadcasting “Watching The Vegas Voice.” These shows can be seen on the Golden Network TV Roku streaming platform as well as on our website: www.thevegasvoice.net

And proving the adage that you are only young once, but can be immature forever, you should see my Bronx brother Bill Caserta and this publisher in our “Scams, Schemes & Senior Safety” segments.

Our goal is to warn seniors of the financial dangers that surround us on a daily basis. Not by lecturing but by placing a smile on your face as we highlight the latest senior scam.

Hopefully with continued good health and much laughter, I can announce all this again next year. As that boxing philosopher Muhammad Ali advised, “it’s not bragging if you can back it up.”
