A friend recently posted on Facebook, saying that the following might be the first time you have seen this on social media. He wrote, “I was wrong. I apologize.”
He went on to explain that he believed things written on social media to be true before being told that he was a victim of faulty facts. Lies. This is such a difficult time when it comes to searching for truth or facts.
Whatever you want the truth to be, you can find someone stating what you want to hear. The horrible truth of this current time is that people are not restricted by the facts.
We, as a society, no longer seem to have the ability to fact-check others, or at times, ourselves.
Why is it so jolting to see someone write these very transparent words? “I was wrong. I apologize.” And why is it so unique to see a post that is so honest?
Life is about learning and growing. Why do we think we need to be right all the time? Why is it difficult to say that we were wrong?
Is our society so unforgiving that we can’t admit our imperfections anymore? We see people getting “cancelled” when they say or do something wrong. Should that be forever?
Is this how we should react to people who have missed the mark in life? Shall we never forgive? Shall we never allow anyone to rid themselves of their imperfect past?
In Christian Scripture, James reminds us, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” All of the world’s religions want us to confess and to know that God forgives.
Now, more than ever, we need to be more flexible. We need to recognize our own imperfections – to ask for forgiveness, grant forgiveness, and forgive ourselves as well!
I have so many reasons in my life to say, “I was wrong. I apologize.” I need to remind myself that all the craziness in this world is not important.
Nothing is more important than LOVE. If it’s not LOVE, it’s just not important!
