Home At Last

Home At Last

Today, October 14, 2025, is the first full day of freedom for 20 hostages. The remains of 8 deceased hostages were returned and there are 20 more still due a proper burial.

I reflect on the last 2 years and especially, my time as lead for the Henderson Run For Their Lives. This was an organization I became aware of in the Spring of 2025.

Our first walk was June, 2025 (thanks to the support and guidance of Ruth Kantrowitz, Lead of Summerlin R4TL). I learned a lot about people over the last 4 to 5 months and I am sorry to say that much of what I discovered was not positive.

I am disappointed in my fellow Jews. Many that I reached out to ignored us. The Havurah in my own community were absent and silent, as were the clergy in my local synagogues.

Although our R4TL group was on the local CBS Sunday Evening News several weeks ago, no one, Jew or Gentile contacted us to walk with our group. I was sorely disappointed.

Then there were the individual excuses. Folks that told me how wonderful our cause is, but I would rather have had their participation.

Instead I heard about sore feet and sore backs. Their unsolicited excuses rang hollow.

Those same folks go on cruises and apparently have no problem making it around the ship to the dining room several times a day. Our walks took less time and less footsteps than the walk from their cabin to the dining room.

Fortunately, there were the diehard supporters and to them I am eternally grateful. Most especially Leslie & Ronn Sokol (Leslie’s cousin, Adi Vital Kaploun was killed in the attack on October 7, 2023); Jodie Alex; Mirta Ines Trupp; my daughter Dr. Eve Breier, (who drove in each weekend from Pahrump); my daughter Anne Breier-Henry and my most precious son-in-law, Richard Henry.

Of course, none of what I did could be possible without the support of my husband, Bill, who, although unable to walk with us, was present every week. I love you all.

I was disappointed that we had no Gentile supporters. This lack of enthusiasm from our Christian brethren makes it very apparent to me that while the hostages, alive and deceased are being returned to Israel, my mission must continue.

They need to be reminded that radical Muslims would gladly kill every Jew and then come for the Christians. Christians are being killed in Nigeria, Yemen, Iraq, North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Pakistan, Sudan and Afghanistan.

Gentiles that ignored our movement may soon be asking for our support in helping them bring attention to the massacre(s) of their own.

On October 5th, we held a vigil at UNLV thanks to the efforts of Professor Dr. Gregory Brown. (see next page).as we approached the 2-year mark of the hostages in Gaza. While the turnout was encouraging, I was sad that those that said they can’t walk failed to show up for an event that required sitting and lighting a candle.

I was, however, pleased to see young people from UNLV in attendance. It gives me some hope for the future.

Sadly, only one of the public officials invited attended. Mayor Shelly Berkley was initially advertised as our keynote speaker, but she canceled a few days before. We did have the honor of Dr. Monica Larson, Henderson City Councilwoman, who spoke eloquently.

I am grateful that I can finally terminate my 2 year-long monthly articles regarding the hostages in Gaza. However, my mission continues to end the scourge of antisemitism.

One last note: I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the fearless dedication of The Vegas Voice to this cause. The magazine allowed me unlimited space to write each month and provided unconditional support in every way possible. Thank you  Publisher Dan Roberts and President, Rana Goodman.
