Great “Q” on a Mission

Great “Q” on a Mission

There is a new BBQ place that is part of a chain that has been feeding fans for years. Mission BBQ has arrived in Henderson in a building that has been a Sweet Tomatoes and Mexican restaurant. The spot has been totally remodeled into a very pro-American presence.

Inside are pictures of veterans who have served their country. Outside is a large smoker that helps to get you into the mood for great “Q”.

If you want to dig in you might want to consider the Meat Market section. Five meats are available or a sampler plate if you want to give all of them a try. The orders includes a piece of their cornbread which has a consistency of soft to slightly hard.

Brisket is smoked with oak wood and has just the right amount of char. Both pulled pork and chicken are slow smoked and hand pulled. Turkey here is much better than other spots locally because it is lean and sliced and isn’t dried out at all.

Sausage is available but I haven’t experienced it yet. It is made with jalapeno and cheese.

Baby back ribs are available along with salmon and a smoked cheeseburger will satisfy those looking for an all-American treat. Other sandwiches include chopped brisket and pulled pork.

Six homemade sauces are sitting on each table and range from traditional to spicy according to what mood you are in. Having tried all of them I can’t decide which one I like the best. Choose for yourself.

As you enter you wander up to the counter and announce your order. Combo plates can be selected that include either one or two sides plus a drink.

Sides are as important as meats in great BBQ spots and the list is large and delicious here. Maggie’s Mac-n-Cheese is indeed a cheesy affair with just the right balance between noodles and dairy.

Collard greens are highlighted with a touch of spice. Potato salad is one of my favorites with large-size potatoes immersed with salad fixins. Baked beans are enhanced with brisket and fries are made with fresh spuds, not frozen.

Traditional drinks are on the docket but they also feature The American Heros Cup priced at $4.99 with $2.99 being donated to support meaningful work of nonprofit organizations in the area. Both sweet and unsweetened tea is made throughout the day. Summertime lemonade will quinch your thirst.

Desserts are changed seasonally, and a recent strawberry shortcake was made with a biscuit, tantalizing strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream on top.

If you are planning a party you might want to consider one of their bundles that can feed anyone from five to forty people. Two meats, three sides and other fixins will feed a whole troop.

It is good to see a restaurant that started back east coming in and immediately start a quest to serve the local community. After you visit you will say…mission accomplished.
