I often warn against trying new trends or techniques because the outcome may not always be optimum. My concern is usually things that are permanent – especially if they are on your face because those can be hard to un-do and hard to hide.
Fast forward to last month’s trend of rubbing a banana peel on your face. Yes, this popped up on my timeline and people swore it worked so I bought bananas.
It’s supposed to help your skin tone and help with fine wrinkles. Pretty much a miracle in a peel.
I don’t usually buy bananas but they are good for you so I figured worse case I’d eat something healthy. Bananas are a good source of fiber, potassium and vitamin B6 but sugar is high so be cautious of that.
Side note, I was shocked at how cheap they were compared to other fresh fruits, I got 5 bananas for $1.00!
But the question remained, what would they do for my skin? It sure couldn’t hurt unless you have an allergy to bananas so do a patch test first.
I ate my banana, washed my face and rubbed that peel all over my face.
Some people put smaller pieces under their eyes, so I cut 2 strips and placed them there. Then I waited 20 minutes and washed it off with a mild face soap and cool water. It is also suggested you use moisturizer after.
The results were interesting. Did I look like I had used Botox and were all my wrinkles gone? Of course not, but weirdly I liked it.
The problem is, I don’t know why I liked it. I thought my skin seemed soft, maybe tighter like after a mask but nothing amazing.Â
However, I did like it enough to do it again, and certainly every time I have bananas in the house. I don’t see me buying enough bananas to do this daily but I will do it again and maybe next time I’ll make banana bread too. A definite win-win.
