False Eyelashes

False Eyelashes

Recently, a reader and I were chatting about self-adhesive false eyelashes. While I don’t use them, I always love the look when others do and decided to give this a whirl.

How hard could it be?

Not being up on the current trend, I first ask my daughters as I know they have used them in the past. My youngest daughter had recently purchased magnetic lashes and at first try said it took her a bit to master.

I decided that I would try Ardell, their website (www.ardellshop.com) has more types and styles than I ever knew existed. They claim to be the leader worldwide of lashes. Their selection and pricing both seem to be good, making it helpful to compare options.

I opted for the self-adhesive ($4.00) Ardell and also their magnetic accent lashes ($7.00). Neither was too expensive considering they can be re-used.

The one thing I knew I didn’t want was the glue option. As it turns out, that was a very smart call. I could barely get them on.

The truth is, I’m terrible at applying these! It has been a month, and I have yet to master either.

The thin self-adhesive are so thin that I struggle with keeping them flat and getting them placed well. The magnetic ones are more interesting to me, but I haven’t mastered those either.

I think they could both work well, but my hands are too clumsy. They have an applicator that should make it easy, but my placement is terrible. This is truly user error!

On a side note, although I picked what I thought were less fluffy lashes, I still felt a little like Snuffleupagus, as I’m not used to seeing myself in lashes. I plan to buy a less full pair and will continue to work with them.

If I ever master them, I will surely use them for special occasions!
