Duck Faces

Duck Faces

What the hell are duck faces all about? Why? Is there some secret meaning behind having your picture taken and trying to look like a waterfowl?

I’ve seen it for years on Facebook and other social sites but in my mind, it should go the way of “cray cray” and “no worries.” All of this gets pretty worn out after a while.

Every decade has its expressions and thankfully they fade away over time. The ‘60s had groovy, peace signs, headbands, miniskirts, etc. Some seemed a little extreme and some are back today.

Tie dye was a good one and beehive hair was quite creative. The bird’s nest thing was easy for me because I had a lot of hair.

But I never tried to look stupid in pictures. Granted sometimes I did look pretty ridiculous in retrospect but no duck face or tongues hanging out like I was stranded in the desert.

Our purpose back then was to look stylish and be trendsetters. Big flowers on our clothes, white knee-high boots, even white nail polish and lipstick! Never a duck face.

And here we are in the land of social media where everyone is a star or looking for their 15 minutes of fame.

The two favorite social media poses are duck faces and sticking out your tongue. Sometimes a duck face has a nose ring and the tongue has some pierced thing in it. The trendy singing stars with tattoos even put them on their faces and obviously aren’t thinking ahead to 20 years from now.

I live in my bubble most of the time. I’ve lost a few pounds here and there so my new look is a Shar Pei fashion statement to accommodate my new droops. I imagine if I had tattoos, the words would have formed new words as my body changes and that could be a problem.

My one tattoo is somewhat hidden just as a remembrance of loves gone by and that’s it. My photos are really me in today’s world with no weird faces… unless by accident.
