“They’re everywhere!” I screamed in frustration.
Even my PILL (partner in love & life) while disagreeing with my tone and “colorful” hometown Bronx expressions agreed as to the current conditions. It is totally insane.
Maybe it’s just me (and my Rana) but does it seem that you cannot drive more than a few minutes in any direction without those traffic barriers and road construction? From Anthem to Summerlin and everywhere in between, no matter which way you are going, you’re hounded by those damn traffic cones and barriers.
Like rabbits doing mating season, they seem to be multiplying; increasing every day, week after week.
They form the perfect barrier, shutting down traffic lanes; from 3 to 2…and then, from two to one. Traffic is backed up everywhere and all you see are those blasted orange cones along with the red taillights of the (equally frustrated) driver and vehicle in front of you.
And to add insult to injury (and no doubt you’ve seen this too) how many times have you witnessed lane closures without anything being done on the blocked off road? I mean freakin’ nothing.
No construction crews, no repair trucks, no holes/damage to the street – not a freakin’ thing but the orange cones blocking the empty lane.
Any why, oh why, could they not simply shut down one portion of the road at a time leaving the alternative roads open to handle the traffic? Why does every street (and it does not matter if you’re heading north, south, east or west) likewise have those road barriers?
Now I understand the road construction and shut down of the I-15 along the Strip. At least they were smart enough to do so in the middle of the night. Why can’t that be done everywhere?
Why inconvenience the public doing day time hours? And for the love of the “Michelin Man” if you closed down the road, couldn’t you at least pretend that you have crews working on it?
How angry do you get having a lane (or two) being surrounded by the orange cones for a considerable distance only to see a worker or two doing “work” over a ten-yard stretch of road?
“Hey Rana,” I shouted, even though she was sitting next to me.” I bet I’ll be considered a hero if I get out of the car, take those (expletives deleted) cones in front of us and toss them to the sidewalk.”
“You just might” my Ladylove sarcastically replied. “But don’t expect me to post your bail when you get arrested.” Then her words of wisdom: “Why don’t you calm down, man up and just be grateful you don’t need a bathroom.”
My Rana, of course (and as always) was correct as to her observation.
But you better believe, while idling and slowly waiting to merge into the other lane, how much I would give to find the guy who ordered the placement of those traffic cones, grab them and line them up on his home street, driveway and front lawn.
Besides, Who need bail money? I would probably be released on my own recognizance anyway.
