Indeed, diners at Henderson’s Weiss Deli saw salami “coming’ through the rye…and pastrami, and corned beef and all sorts of deli dishes overflowing their sandwiches and plates. So it was with trepidation New Year’s Day when many logged onto social media and saw that the deli had changed hands.
Tony Fisher, the new owner, assured devoted followers “the matzo ball soup won’t change.”
Alongside Fisher, wife and business partner Andrea Eppolito posted, “the big reveal…We bought a deli…Weiss’ deli here in Henderson.” Along with the video announcement came a peak into the future.
“We are committed to preserving everything you love – delicious food, the amazing team, and the warm, friendly service, while lovingly updating the space itself. As part of this new chapter, we’re excited to share that Weiss Deli will soon rebrand into Fisher’s Delicatessen, a reimagined experience that honors the past while introducing a fresh future.”
The response was immediate. A bevy of thumbs up on YouTube and “l’chaim” from Instagrammer gmb1714.
Weiss’ appeal extends beyond Las Vegas. El Paso’s Jill Burstein, who with husband Gary visits Las Vegas 2-3 times a year, claims “This deli is a bigger draw…than the casinos. It almost could be a transplant from (her native) Detroit.” Assured that the menu wouldn’t change, Jill hopes Epolito and Fisher honor the venue’s iconic “vibe.”
Smatters of skepticism peppered Facebook. One statement that expressed “mixed feelings” was addressed with, “we are committed to continuing their (previous owners Mike and Ash Weiss) legacy and making everyone feel like family…We have all the original recipes and trained…and won’t change a thing.”
To another skeptic’s concern, they responded, “we are honored to continue the tradition of great food and big portions!”
The new owners bring a résumé filled with accomplishments in the hospitality industry. Eppolito earned a reputation as a premier luxury wedding and event planner, while Fisher, through his Fisher Group, has provided a comprehensive range of services for the hospitality sector.
