Hugo’s Cellar at the Four Queens Hotel has a tableside salad that is included with meals. Diners get to pix their favorite ingredients that range from tomatoes, olives and just about anything else you can think of.
Henderson has a couple of places I frequent. On most Saturdays I travel to Water Street to sample one of Chef Flemming’s pasty goodies. He was the Pastry Chef at Golden Nugget for many years and his cinnamon rolls are some of the best around.
As you bite into one you will notice a croissant-type bun that is topped with a memorable frosting. This is a big item and it is definitely enough for two.
Another must stop in Henderson is the Pasta Shop on Horizon Ridge Parkway. The Alenik family runs the 55-seat establishment that was started by patriarch David who died rather suddenly a few years ago.
All of the noodles are made in-house. They supply pasta for other restaurants in the area so there is always a nice allotment ready to be served.
The baked rigatoni is one of the best plates around. The generous portion is topped with a flavorful sauce and the accompanying cheese bread is hard to resist as well.
Another favorite of our family is Lawry’s The Prime Rib. This is one of the most unique restaurants in the world.
Where else can you eat tender, juicy meat that has been hand-carved from a silver cart? The trained cutters dutifully take your order and slice accordingly. They also dish up fluffy mashed potatoes, creamed spinach or corn.
The star is the prime rib which is slightly seasoned and as tender and juicy as can be. If you are a fan of beef this is your place.
When it comes to sandwiches, I give a nod to Chick Fil’A which now has several locations throughout the valley. They claim to have invented the chicken sandwich and this one is definitely a winner.
A generous-sized chicken breast is coated with spices and deep-fried to perfection. Even though the meat is thick, the middle is always juicy, and every sandwich has a consistent taste no matter which branch you visit.
If you have been thinking about dishes you really love that you haven’t been able to get in a while, have faith. Great dining days are just around the corner.
