There is a lot of chillin’ going on in Boulder City and most of it is coming from Chilly Jilly’z. This fast casual place is a great spot to stop after a trip to Lake Mead. The food is fresh and delicious.
The line-up of sandwiches should be a model for everyone. They not only make every slice of bread they serve, but the list of toppings are fresh and numerous. The Best Dam Panini ($8.99) is one example. House-roasted tri tip and melted provolone cheese are combined with cole slaw and BBQ sauce on ciabatta. Canyon Caprese is awash with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes topped with homemade pesto on focaccia. A couple of burgers will keep you stuffed for hours. The Single features a quarter pound of 100% Angus beef with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and dressing stuffed between a brioche bun. Crinkle fries are on the side. There is also a Double Double for twice the fun.
Broaster chicken isn’t offered too much these days but it is prominent here. They use a high-pressure cooking method that keeps the meat juicy but allows a crispy outside. They also marinate the pieces between 8 and 14 hours and the finished product features a golden brown finish that is a delight for the eyes and a treat for the taste buds. Each plate comes with a biscuit, wedges and a homemade side. Since it is cooked to order the wait time is about 15 minutes but well worth it. They also offer chicken wings that are served with ranch or blue cheese dressing.
Each side is homemade with a couple of potato salads including a jalapeno option that is a spicy adventure. Cole slaw and gooey mac and cheese are also available.
The collection of salads is also appealing. The Cobb is made with romaine, egg, bacon, grape tomatoes and blue cheese crumbles.
If you just want to stop in for a summer treat, they have not only shaved ice, smoothies and Italian soda, but hard-to-find Dole Whip too. And it is offered in different flavors, not just the most-famous pineapple. If you really want to live why not order a Whip Float that is lactose, gluten and cholesterol free. They are available in four sizes. Dole soft serve is also a tasty option. Traditional milkshakes and malts will cool you off. There are chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or banana.
A coffee bar offers the usual menu of options including lattes and cappuccinos. Tea lovers will want to indulge in Chai Tea Lattes. Lemonade is another thirst quencher.
Kids get their picks from a list that features 100% real chicken tenders, a corn dog, grilled cheese sandwich or a bowl of mac ‘n cheese. Each offering comes with a side and a small drink. For $4.99 you can’t beat it.
One of the big plusses of the place is the energetic staff. They answer questions about the menu with a smile on their faces and are always Johnny on the spot with getting the orders out on time.
They also have homemade pastries and breakfast items.
