![]() By: Bob Gourley There aren’t a lot of independent sandwich shops in Henderson. But an intriguing one has opened on Horizon Ridge near Stephanie. It is called One Bite and it has a decidedly Asian influence. You won’t find the usual amount of offerings you would find at any of the chain places that dot the valley. But if you are looking for Asian fusion wrapped up in bread this place is for you. The menu is filled with creative sandwiches with health in mind. This is a fast-casual place where you can order and take it with you or dine in the inside area. On a recent Saturday afternoon, the spot was almost full considering the social distancing guidelines. If you want an appetizer start with Shrimp Spring rolls made with fresh green leaf lettuce, mint, shellfish and vermicelli roll with rice paper immersed in house peanut sauce. You can also get deep-fried pot stickers delivered with sweet and sour sauce. Veggie egg rolls are also available. When was the last time you saw crab Rangoon on the menu? These beauties feature cheese wrapped over wonton paper that is deep fried to a crispy consistency. Make sure to dip them in sweet and sour sauce. The sandwich menu is large with many combinations to ponder. I chose the House BBQ Pork Sandwich for $11.00. It was full of savory meat and jalapeno, cilantro, carrot, pickles, cucumber and a side of ginger. Other sandwiches include Orange Chicken which I want to order next time. If you want chicken choose the House Grilled BBQ Chicken sandwich. The Omelet Eggs edition features a nod to breakfast with a kick with jalapenos and cilantro. By the way, all of the sandwiches include soup and a choice of beverage. Definitely a bargain with all of those options. They also feature whole plates for those in search of a full meal. The meats are marinated overnight and then charbroiled. Included on the plate is an egg and a choice of rice (white or fried) or you can get vermicelli without an egg. Shrimp Fried Rice over Beef Short Ribs is a surf and turf pick. Vegetarians will want to consider the Tofu Lemon Grass Plate. As mentioned earlier, every sandwich includes a cup of soup. I hadn’t had a good order of Tom Yum for a long time, so I picked it. It was a spicy affair with just the right amount of heat and citrus. If you haven’t tried it you should. You are in for a treat. They also offer a chicken noodle soup and a couple of other choices. Their slate of beverages continues the theme of Asian fusion. There is canned coconut water plus green matcha green tea. Viet Coffee is also available which is a mix of condensed milk and black betui coffee. And yes, you will find the usual mix of soft drinks. No doubt about it the creativity and flavors of will impress you. Whether it be lunch or dinner you will definitely want more than one bite. One Bite, 1550 W. Horizon Ridge Pkwy., Henderson.
