Remember that children’s song “Dem Bones?” It says this one’s connected to that one and tells you to shake dem bones.
Not so fast! The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone but it doesn’t shake. Neither does the thigh bone which is also connected to the hip bone. Overall, the warranty on this system of bones seems to have expired.
So now I need new hinges to keep moving and maybe I’ll be able to shake again. I wear knee sleeves and that helps to stabilize me and use a new cane with flowers on it.
This getting older thing really creeps up on you. Your mind works well,,, I think. If it isn’t working that well, I simply go back to the room where the thoughts started and try again.
Anyway, it doesn’t bother me too much because as you see, I keep writing these silly little columns every month.
It’s the body! OMG! Get a strain from sleeping funny and your neck hurts for days. Turn a corner too fast and hope to the heavens you don’t crash into the wall.
Feeding the dogs and bending over to fill water dishes is a challenge several times a day. Stand at the sink and move back and forth to load the dishwasher takes forever.
God forbid I should put the dishes in right after use. Too much trouble.
After sitting for a while, getting up can take a few minutes. Once I do, I’m fine. Stretch the arms, loosen the joints and keep a heating pad close.
They say mind over matter is a powerful thing so I try to apply biofeedback training I learned 40 years ago. It works sometimes.
Other times I use all these natural oils my sister sends me but it makes me smell like a cinnamon muffin and I get hungry.
Now I am wrestling with surgery and I’m told life is wonderful after knee replacement. So look out world, Adrea is getting them done. It’s hard making grown-up decisions when you’re basically a scaredy cat.
