Delivering (Feline) Happiness

Delivering (Feline) Happiness

I love hearing from readers and was recently assisting a lovely couple who was looking to adopt a Persian rescue cat (hello Sheryl and David!).

They succeeded shortly after I sent them some referrals surprising even me, as this breed is rare among shelters and rescues. However, if it’s meant to be, fate takes over.

They have now added Tigger to their household, and I am guessing that is one very lucky cat (you are welcome, Tigger).

It is examples such as this one that make it so worthwhile to write for The Vegas Voice. While my colleagues strive to inform, guide, caution, or entertain our readers on various topics, my goal is to bring you information about the creatures with whom we share our world, with whom we are interdependent (biodiversity), and whom we might care for as family members.

At the end of the day, how we treat animals says a lot about who we are. Kindness matters, especially when directed towards those who need it the most (our veterans, children, fragile seniors, and the nonhumans who make up our wildlife, livestock, and companions).

The purpose of my column is to open eyes, minds and hearts; that is the compensation for my efforts. Every time I receive an email from a reader, letting me know they appreciate an article, or suggesting another topic or asking for more information or assistance, I know I have accomplished what I set out to do.

Some of you have become members of my organization so we can send you an occasional action alert, and I am very pleased to have you as fellow advocates. We can never have enough crusaders (or warriors, as I like to call us).

Thanksgiving is next month, but I am taking this month to extend my appreciation for all of you who have braved some of the content I have shared and stuck with me. Reading about animal suffering is not an easy thing, but awareness is always key in initiating change.

Thank you for not turning away.
