Dear Diary, 2024

Dear Diary, 2024

It’s the end of another year and here I am looking at where I am and if I’ve accomplished anything.

The first thing that comes to mind is that a whole year has passed again. I’m older and crankier, not to mention the new assortment of droops and wrinkles.

I lost a few pounds, and my friend was nice enough to tell me I have “bird legs” now. That was enlightening.

We’ve adopted a new rescue dog who may not have much time left but he has tremendous spirit. Bo is a little toy poodle who was neglected during the final years of his owner’s life and got dumped.

We put him through surgery, treated infections and found out he also has cancer, but he is the happiest little guy ever! Spoiling him is easy and he gets along with the other dogs.

My years of writing this column culminated into a book that was released in the spring. It wasn’t so much for any other reason than to leave a piece of me somewhere to be remembered.

Sooner or later we all can fade away. That’s not doom and gloom but just the way it is.

Travel continued to lots of fun places and now our big dog gets to go with us. She is certified as a service dog with more credentials than a child going for the first day of school! She’s a total star on cruise ships.

Some friends have passed, and it gets lonely when instinct tells me to call them for lunch. I’ve learned to enjoy alone time more, but my job keeps me interacting with people I love working with.

I’m older than them and they seem to respect my knowledge. How amazing is that?

There were a few challenges along the way, so I did my best to meet them head on and then, move on. Like my mother always said, “Tell me what’s wrong, tell me how to fix it and then let me do it.”

So here we are again. Merry everything to everyone!
