Common Sense, But…

Don’t forget your passport. Make sure you are at the right luggage carousel to pick up your luggage when you arrive at your destination. That’s what I always tell my groups when planning to travel.

So there I was on my most recent group cruise I was escorting from New York to Alaska. And upon arrival, one of the members came to me and said, “I left my passport at the ticket counter  at JFK.”

And soon after, another member informed me that her luggage never made it off the flight when we arrived.

What should Yours Truly do? I first sent the forty other group members who “did everything right” to the hotel in the pre-arranged group bus. Then, for the next hour I ran from Alaska Air ticket counter and luggage office to track down these two group members problems.

We made a lost luggage claim for the person who “lost” her luggage and we arranged for the JFK Alaska Air station to send out the other person’s passport to the hotel we were staying once they located the passport.

The lost luggage lady assured me that she waited at Carousel 13 until all the luggage was off the plane. Only problem – as we deplaned, we were told our luggage would be at Carouse 15!

We found her luggage where all our other group members luggage had been. The moral of that story: LISTEN!

As for the lost passport lady who left her passport in New York? Well, when she emptied her “fully loaded” pocketbook, low and behold, it was at the bottom of said pocket book.

In the hassle of the airport check in, she just forgot where she stuck her passport. Crisis averted.

As for me, my running around the Seattle airport is time I will never get back. And I am not as young as I used to be.  .

I hope my tale will help all Vegas Voyagers prepare and organize a bit more when traveling. Planning, listening and organizing can really enhance the travel experience.
