Breakfast/Lunch Specialties: Keke’s

Breakfast/Lunch Specialties: Keke’s

There are a slew of breakfast/lunch spots cropping up all over the valley. One of the newest is Keke’s Breakfast Cafe on St. Rose Parkway in Henderson. Part of a newly completed shopping center, the space is bright, modern and airy.

The staff is friendly and the menu offers some creative choices. Keep in mind that Keke’s is part of a growing chain that totals seventy locations around the country. It is owned by Denny’s but that is about the only link it has to the storied diner chain.

You won’t find any microwave ovens as they believe in preparing everything to order. Whipped cream doesn’t come from a can. Fruit is sliced daily and they hand crack the eggs as well.

Omelets are front and center. I chose a Greek edition that I really enjoyed. Fresh baby spinach, diced tomatoes and feta cheese were tucked into three eggs that were cooked soft, just the way I like them.

Other picks include sausage and cheese, southwest, and a south-of-the border fajita offering with seasoned chicken breast, green pepper, onion and cheddar. Diners can also build their own if they are in the mood. Other classics include stuffed French toast with cream cheese sitting below a generous powdered sugar topping.

If you want to go healthy, enjoy a generous bowl of Quaker hot oats with sliced bananas that are accompanied with an English muffin. A fresh fruit bowl includes strawberries, bananas, blueberries, grapes and oranges. A scrambler bowl is made with two extra large eggs, a choice of three veggies, cheese and toast.

Pancakes, waffles and create your own combos round out the breakfast fare.

They begin serving lunch at 10:30 and the list of items is highlighted with paninis. Ingredients are grilled on sourdough bread with kettle chips and a pickle filling up the plate.

Wraps are made with wheat tortillas. How about a Carolina chicken offering? A collection of fried grilled chicken strips, pecans, bacon, tomato, cheese and iceberg lettuce are doused with honey mustard dressing.

Of course you will find burgers. A traditional bacon cheeseburger is constructed with two quarter pound all beef patties that are topped with two slices of bacon, white American cheese and a choice of toppings. Buffalo wings are served with French fries.

Salads are well represented with a Chicken Caesar made with grilled bird, parmesan cheese, croutons and dressing. Tuna salad with fresh fruit is another favorite.

Side orders are standard issue with fries, onion rings, and salads.

A small but interesting cocktail menu is something you won’t usually expect at a breakfast/lunch spot but a trio of picks is offered. A white peach bellini is a collection of fruit syrup, orange juice, sparkling wine and fresh fruit garnish.

Denny’s has been closing some of their outlets but the growing chain Keke’s is an attempt to forge a new trail. So far, A-Okay!
