American Cuisine with a Twist: Americana

American Cuisine with a Twist Americana

The Lakes region of Las Vegas reminds me of many locations in Southern California, including Belmont Shore and Newport Beach. The winding waterways and great views bring back memories of carefree youthful days on the coast. But something they don’t have down south is Americana Restaurant, which is a big plus for our area.

On a recent visit I was reminded why so many people like the place. First of all there are great views from just about every table.

If the weather is right, a seat at the patio is also a sweet spot. Inside I like replicas of the American documents that remind you of the history of the country.

As you might expect the food reflects the diversity of cuisine that you can find throughout the nation with some updated twists to make it interesting. For instance, the appetizer fare has a charcuterie and cheese board with three different cheeses, meats and accompaniments.

Mediterranean Octopus is served with avocado crème and watermelon radish. A jumbo shrimp cocktail will keep you occupied along with smoked salmon tartare.

Main courses are highlighted with offerings like oven roasted striped bass that is delivered with crab orzo and lemon butter emulsion. Pan seared king salmon is enhanced with Israeli couscous and shishito pepper. Petaluma chicken features jus with carrot puree and a pork steak is accompanied with shrimp fried rice and Shanghai bok choy.

Beef entrees are nicely represented with all day braised short rib, a dish I really enjoyed. Also on the plate were baby vegetables.

You can indulge in an 18- ounce bone in ribeye with potato puree. A 24-ounce gigantic Porterhouse also awaits you.

When was the last time you saw Steak Diane on the menu? It is one of my favorites and next time I will give it a try. It is prepared tableside.

More restaurants are offering full course meals. At Americana, a tableside dining experience with four servings is available for $150 per person and an additional $35 with wine. An Amuse Bouche starts things off along with tuna tartare, lobster ala vodka, the aforementioned Steak Diane and bananas foster. You get a show along with a great meal.

Desserts run the gamut from pumpkin swirl cheesecake to tropical custard tart with coconut macaroons and berry sauce.

Sunday brunch is offered weekly with a choice of entrees like a pastry basket for two or brioche French toast.

If you are looking for a libation you might want to sample one of their tawny ports. They have Graham’s brand along with Taylor Fladgate.

A quintet of teas is a nice touch. I have been pleading with restaurants to add these beverages for a long time. Jasmine, mint meringue and organic Earl Grey are a few choices.

If you want to escape the desert for a little while, take a journey to the Lakes to enjoy imaginative American cuisine with a great view. You just might see someone cruising down the waterway. Give them a wave!
