About Those Eyebrows

The 2026 eyebrow trends are interesting. One of the most interesting trends are “almost invisible,” where the eyebrows are sparse and appear plucked out in spots and totally “bleached out” white or blonde.

Personally, being of a certain age, I remember many of the trends going from full Brooke Shields to pencil thin, I always kept mine more towards normal. I was never really able to pull off extreme looks, or perhaps I just wasn’t brave enough.

For me, nothing has really changed, I’m not looking for my eyebrows to make a statement. I do prefer that they are not gray or have sparse missing spots.

When people get their eyebrows professionally colored, for the first couple of days, they can look pretty dark, then fade nicely. One of the reasons is that the skin under the brows also gets dyed. As it fades, there is still some skin tint, but lighter and a nice filled-in brow effect.

The latest makeup trick I found gives that same effect, although it’s only temporary. First, wet your eyebrows, then pat them dry so they are just barely damp.

Then, with your eyebrow brush or a thin eye shadow brush, use eye shadow that closely matches your brow (or a shade lighter) and slowly brush your brows. It’s important to only have a very light amount on your brush; tap or wipe it off before applying so it is a light application.

Having your eyebrows damp allows the shadow to fill in the skin area, much like when brows are dyed. You don’t want it too dark or too heavy. We don’t want to end up with Bette Davis (Baby Jane) eyebrows.

Tips: If you use your thinner eye shadow brush, make sure it’s dry before using to do your eyes. I use the Maybelline Nudes eye shadow palette as it has several brown hues that work nicely for my brows and as eyeshadow.

Be sure to test this on a day you aren’t going right out. It takes some practice to get it right, so best to play with it first to make sure you like the effect.
