Kikes are perpetual vitcims (sic) who murder innocent Muslims and then cower behind the pants of the U.S.A. Kikes are the problem in the Middle East. Sad that Hitler did not have more time to terminate more kikes. Now, go block my email address and continue being a whining worthless useless kike.
The above email was sent to our This & That columnist Liz Breier. It got me to think of my “kike” tale.
When my children were young they would ask me what words were totally different in my “home country” England, than they are in the U.S.A. Most of the time that topic would bring gales of laughter. Such examples being “eraser” in the UK is called “rubber,” and “elevator” is called the “lift” and so on.
However, there were some words that as a 12-year-old I never heard before – such word and derogatory term being the case with the above email.
One day I was trying to fit into my new life as a 7th grade student in my new home, Las Vegas. I was walking to class with a new friend who had taken me under “her wing.”
As we passed two other girls, one looked at me and said “that’s the new kike” as they passed by.
My friend asked me if I heard her. I shrugged, said “yes” and asked what it meant. When she explained what the word meant, without thinking, I turned and grabbed the girl by her hair. The war was on!
Suddenly I felt someone grab me and the other girl and marched us to the Principal’s office.
My dad was called and he rushed to the school. He looked at me and asked, “What have you done now?”
Once told, my dad smiled and told the principal that rather than punish me, he intended to take my mom and I out to a nice dinner. He was proud of what I did since he taught me to stand up for myself and not to take that kind of garbage from anyone.
So my response to this bigoted, antisemitic and obviously “garbage” individual? I cleaned and polished my Star of David necklace and wore it even more proudly!
* On a much more positive note, if you love playing poker, consider jumping in and joining as a sponsor or player at the Black Mountain Lion’s Club tournament. See the information on this page.
The Lion’s Club has long held a special spot in my heart since my dad spent years heading up events for their eye conservation program.
At that time many children needing eye wear or eye surgery from medical issues to financial concerns would find help from the Lion’s Club. The Lion’s involvement went as far as flying the children to whatever city had doctors ready to serve at no cost to the children’s families.
