It seems appropriate to have a particularly French-oriented restaurant at Paris Hotel and Casino. After all there is Mon Ami Gabi that has terrific Steak Frites. But Vanderpump a Paris is so French that you would swear you just stepped into a Parisian boutique restaurant in Europe.
When it originally opened, it was a bar only and most of the seating is still oriented that way. For instance, when my wife and I arrived they put us at a small cocktail table. But it was comfortable as there was a cushy sofa with cushions for us to relax on.
There are a wealth of flowers everywhere, including just above our heads. The revolving carousel of colors seemed like a sword of Damocles but it helped to set the mood.
The menu is full of small bites if you want them but there are a half dozen entrees that are worthy of hungry appetites. The Butter Prawns were an instant hit. Large grilled whole shrimp were enhanced with lemon crème fraiche and home-made pasta that was some of the best I’ve had in a long time.
There are a trio of pot pies including the Coq Au Vin offering a collection of braised chicken, bacon lardons, white burgundy velouté and veggies sitting under a light and airy puff pastry. Filet tips and veggie versions of pies are also available.
A cast iron filet is tempting along with a French version of chicken tenders with chili breadcrumbs and fresh herb white goddess dip.
Speaking of bites, your group might want to share some with picks like Baby Bistros including mini beef burgers with caramelized onion Gruyere cheese, Dijon, and tomato confit. A vegan edition with an impossible burger is also ready to be served. Crispy fried sweet potatoes are another possibility.
Don’t miss one of their desserts. The Grande Selection is a bit pricey but includes your choice of three on a grand platter. A couple sitting next to us ordered it and it was enough for a large group.
Options include a crème puff with caramel and crème anglaise or bread pudding with chocolate pearls. Chocolate bites are another pick along with beignets with crystallized crème.
There are so many specialty drinks that it would take a book to mention them all but some of the highlights include the Pump and Circumstance with Belvedere Pear and Ginger Vodka, ginger liqueur and bitters along with fresh pear, lime, ginger beef and a pinch of black pepper.
Pinky’s Poison is a mix of gunpowder Irish gin, pink aromatic tonic, hibiscus, ginger bitters, cucumber, lemon and roses.
There is an enticing selection of wines including the house Vanderpump Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County. Old World whites are represented with a Yealands Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. A chardonnay from Napa Valley is another choice.
A late-night menu includes a truffle-stuffed baguette, French fries and charcuterie with a fancy selection of cheeses and fruit.
Whether you are looking for a signature libation or a full meal, you will find it at Vanderpump a Paris.
