A Touch of Nostalgia: Pacific Diner in Henderson

Pacific Diner

Diners used to frequent main streets throughout the country. But as fast-food chains continued to grow, the mom-and-pop eateries declined. Henderson still has a place that the locals love to visit…Pacific Diner. This locally owned spot is perfect for those seeking a hearty breakfast or lunch at affordable prices.

The inviting décor is full of red booths with local pictures decorating the walls. I enjoyed a color print of Hoover Dam and the lake obviously taken years ago as there was no bathtub ring.

The menu is filled with classics that will you make you feel at home. The Build Your Own Scramble is one example. Two eggs are expertly scrambled and include a choice of meat and hash browns or seasoned potatoes. The spuds are just a bit spicy for a slight kick. The shortcoming of the dish is that no toast or biscuits are included but the portion size is generous so many won’t mind.

Omelet fans will find something to their liking. The Meat Lover’s edition includes diced ham, bacon and sausage topped with Cheddar Jack cheese and breakfast bread (toast, English muffin or biscuit).

One of the surprises on the menu is fare from Hawaii. Loco Moco, that popular breakfast entree, is here with two eggs any style delivered with sticky rice that is then topped with a homemade burger patty and brown gravy. That will stick to your ribs!

They also offer another island selection with two eggs, rice and either spam or Portuguese sausage.
If you have a family of heavy eaters you might want to indulge with the Family Brunch priced just under $29.00. A dozen scrambled eggs come to the table with a choice of meat, potatoes and bread.

French toast and pancakes are both dusted with cinnamon and dusted sugar.
You can get lunch all day along with breakfast and there is a list of American classic sandwiches. Not only are they reasonably priced but they come with a side as well. The Turkey classic includes three ounces of meat, tomato and Swiss cheese.

What would a diner be without a BLT or a Club Sandwich? Both are featured and include all of the ingredients people enjoy. East coasters will want to order a Philly Steak delivered with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms that are all topped with Provolone cheese.

You can find a proper burger including a Mushroom Swiss option that is chock full of the signature beef ingredient plus lettuce, tomatoes and red onion.

In a tribute to Mexico the Quesadilla Burger features a juicy patty wrapped in a tortilla with a side of pico de gallo and cheese.

There is a lengthy list of sides that are included with most of the lunch options. Everything from sauteed veggies to sweet potato fries are available. Hungry for avocado? You will find it here along with an island mac salad and grilled onions.

The diner will soon be moving to a new spot on Water Street but no changes are expected.
If you are cruising around the downtown Henderson area give Pacific Diner a try. Nostalgia meets good food!
