A Special Screening

Well here it is, almost time for another “Spooky Halloween.”

Some of you may know that in 1967, I co-starred in a horror film with Lon Chaney Jr. called “Spider Baby.”

It wasn’t a “slasher film “meaning there was “no blood” but rather it is a quirky little twisted film which has been described as “simultaneously creepy and hilarious.”

A fun fact: Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 94 rating while it gave “Gone With the Wind” only a 90!  Wait…what?

The best part of the movie was that I was able to meet and work with Lon Chaney Jr. who was one of my all-time favorites. One of the dearest men ever!

It was an extremely low budget ($65,000) movie and we filmed the whole thing in 13 days. Afterwards the movie just sat in the vault for years.

Fast forward a few years and when Quentin Tarantino (who is a close friend of Jack Hill the writer /director of the film) saw a screening of it at Jack’s house, he loved it! And with Quentin’s support and perseverance, the film was re-mastered and digitized.

The original was pretty “grainy” after sitting around for all those years. However it has now become a cult classic! So much so that Turner Classic Movies has aired it several times!

Because of this, I have received fan mail about the movie from all over the world! There’s even Spider Baby merchandise available for purchase! It is also available on DVD and can be found on line.

For you horror fans, you will undoubtably know who Rob Zombie is. He just came out with the soundtrack and as the photo shows, put me on the cover!

And on October 26th  at 7:00 pm there will be a [special] screening of Spider Baby at the beautiful Beverly Theater in downtown Las Vegas! I will be there to do a Q&A afterwards and would love to see you there!

If you aren’t familiar with this Theater, you are in for a [special] treat. It is gorgeous, very state-of-the-art and was named for Beverly Rogers who is not only a lovely lady but well known in the Las Vegas area for all she has done for our community.

Until next time, remember, sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
