Blue Man Group is an absolutely unconventional, unique theatrical experience. And I loved it. The production at the Luxor in Las Vegas has a cast of three men face-painted blue with four back-up musicians behind see through curtains.
This show does not fit neatly into any category. It is an entertaining, engrossing explosion of music, comedy, performance art and theater. It is about movement, sounds, images, theatrics, skits, and interaction – all without one word uttered.
Audience members of all ages are immersed in the action of the non-verbal cast members who connect so well with the attendees. The percussion driven performances are busting with energy and plain old fun.
Ya gotta be there. Descriptions can’t convey the humor as one blue-man shoots marshmallows across the stage into another’s mouth.
Ya gotta be there. Captain Crunch cereal is a major component of the humor.
Ya gotta be there to see the modern plumbing scenery and appreciate the sounds made by the players drumming on the pipes.
Ya gotta be there to feel the audience clapping with sheer joy and often standing to express their raw pleasure at the shenanigans.
It is a dimly lit stage where they create a theatrical experience as they bang on drums which entertain us with both sound and beautiful colors literally jumping off the drums
The show is simply absurd. You just can’t imagine where it is going, including guns shooting toilet paper into the audience.
No sex, no drugs, no profanity, no nudity, no scantily clad performers. Just three guys in dark clothes with their faces painted blue. Exhausting exhilarating, high energy. The room was obviously designed for them.
There are streamers coming out from the wall. And be prepared for noise as they beat on plastic pipes of all sizes.
