I have been experiencing some strange occurrences in my life lately and may have discovered the source of my puzzling actions. I’m talking about things like driving to the dentist’s office and missing my turn, ending up in the parking lot for a pet superstore.
Or how I recently finished a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, picked up the milk carton and, instead of placing it back in the frig, went to put it in the pantry! I caught myself just in time, then thought what am I doing eating oatmeal instead of my usual Cocoa Puffs?
After more examples of my abnormal behavior, it was getting to the point where I was concerned about my mental state. Was I going crazy or what?
Then I came across an article on the internet with this headline: “Elon Musk’s SpaceX sent 26 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit.” Like a bolt of lightning, I had an “aha” moment which caused me great relief.
“That’s it!” I exclaimed. All those satellites up there sending mysterious signals back to earth are obviously causing my strange behavior.
Like Dorothy’s Wizard behind the curtain controlling things, Musk is most certainly the wizard behind those thousands of satellites whirling around.
Why, it’s no wonder one day at lunch I could not find my bowl of soup that I was positive I had made and gave up looking, only to discover it in the microwave at dinnertime.
Just last weekend while checking out the cabbages (Cabbages?! That darn Musk!) at the farmers market, I described my odd behavior to a friend, including how I have been humming Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” for the past two weeks. She thought about it for a moment then said, “Oh, that’s called you’re getting old.”
Later that evening as I sat outside to catch a cool breeze, I thought about what she had said and wondered “Is that what causes me to do such bizarre things lately, like putting on my underwear backwards after I took a shower this morning—is it that I’m getting old?”
But glancing up at the night sky and catching a glimpse of a chain of freshly launched satellites gliding overhead, I nodded knowingly. “Nah. It’s Musk.”
