The Art of Tolerance

The Art of Tolerance

Antisemitism abounds.

Some on the left have decided that they can no longer tolerate the hate directed towards the Jewish Community and have become outspoken advocates.  One such famous name is Michael Rapaport. A self-proclaimed liberal, he now rants on social media at the ignorance and intolerance of both the students and administrations on the college and university campuses.

Other well-known liberals that have made public statements criticizing anti-Israel sentiment and defending Israel’s actions are Howard Stern and Bill Maher. They stand together with those that have always been friends, such as Jon Bon Jovi and J.K. Rowling.

There are still however, too many that, while not declaring a desire for Israel to be punished, claim that Jews need to be tolerant. I find it amazing that Jews would take that stance.

I would have to ask: Where is the tolerance for Jews?  Are the students at Harvard, Columbia, UC-Davis and others tolerant of their fellow students when they block them from class and spit on them?

Where is the tolerance for the students to enter a library or a classroom? Meanwhile, members of Congress claim the protests are “mostly peaceful.”

Historically there has been little tolerance for Jews. During World War II, America limited the number of Jewish refugees allowed into the United States. Despite the widespread persecution of Jews in Europe, Franklin D. Roosevelt had no tolerance and would not expand the quotas to allow, even children to find refuge.

How about the tolerance of the UN? There is a history of one-sided, hostile approaches to Israel. Israel has suffered decades of bias and marginalization from the UN, no tolerance there.

Where is the tolerance for peaceful demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado who were burned only because they are Jews? Where was the tolerance when a young couple was gunned down on the streets of Washington, D.C.?

Did one member of Congress go to a college campus and tell the antisemitic protesters to stop? Instead, they get airtime by making flowery statements on how horrible it all is but do absolutely zero to end the protests and threats.

In Nevada, some public officials elected to the State Legislature made it clear that they do not care about tolerance for Jews.

When SB179, which requires the Nevada Equal Rights Commission, when conducting an investigation into an alleged unlawful discriminatory practice in housing, employment or public accommodations, to consider whether the practice was motivated by antisemitism (as that term is defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) members walked out of the chambers to be marked absent.

Representatives Gonzalez; La Rue Hatch; Marzola; Miller; Monroe-Moreno; Moore; Mosca and Nadeem, all Democrats, want us to know that they care not about supporting Jews.

Apparently, they prefer to be tolerant of antisemitism in Nevada. Remember those names when you vote in the next election..

I resent Jews that tell me I must be tolerant of an employee or sub-contractor in my community parading around in a keffiyeh that symbolizes antisemitism in the way a swastika does. I resent Rabbis who tell me I must pray for the children of Gaza.

I am tired of Jews being so magnanimous, so ready to sing kumbaya with their arms around their neighbors only to have those very neighbors burn down their homes and applaud when the women are raped and the children burned in ovens.

People think Jews are smart. Not so sure about that, because we have not been smart enough to see danger at our doorstep, not smart enough to prevent the continued spread of antisemitism and not smart enough to stop being so tolerant of everyone – even those who hate us and want to see every last one of us, wiped off the face of the earth.
